Be the Person God Created You to Be

Dear Grandchildren:

This morning, I woke up very early and prayed for all of you and the special people in your lives. Realize how special you are to Grandma and I. Realize you’re one of a kind. Look at the tips of your fingers and see the patterns in your skin. Think about the fact that nobody else in the whole world has the same fingerprints.

Just as you have your own set of fingerprints, you have your own unique combination of talents, abilities, intelligence, and personality. Nobody else knows all the things you know. Nobody else has felt all the things you’ve felt or thought, and nobody else has had the same experiences you’ve had.

I also believe that nobody else can do the things that you are destined to do in this world. Yes, I believe you are making a difference! God has built special bits of knowledge, special abilities, and special gifts within each of you.

So how do you go about finding these gifts and talents and becoming the person God has meant for you to be?

1.) Realize that God created you, and you will find your purpose in life through knowing and serving Him.

2.) Focus on your positive qualities instead of on your shortcomings. You must learn to take pride in what you can do well, instead of punishing yourself for what you can’t do well.
3.) Realize your gifts and develop them. The key is to use your talents and abilities once you’ve found them.

4.) Don’t worry about what other people say or think of you. Don’t allow others to pull you down. You may have to develop new friends.

5.) Don’t try to be something that you aren’t. Many times we admire someone else’s talents and giftings, so we try to be like them. You may not have their talents, so be who you are.

6.) Give yourself positive self-talk. Realize you could be your biggest critic. When you look in the mirror, realize you’re one of a kind, created by God who loves you and already knows your future. Hold your head up and become the person he has created you to be.

7.) Strengthen your friendships. It’s important to have good friends, but you also need one or two really close friends. A great one that really believes in you and is honest with you whom you can really share your heart with.

8.) Develop your spiritual life. Going to church is a good way to find friends, but talking about your spiritual life is more than going to a church. Much more! It’s about getting to know the One who created you. It’s getting to know his Son intimately and knowing the person of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you and wants to bring the reality of God and his Son to you each and every day.

Since he’s the one who designed you, then he’s the one who knows what you need to be healthy, happy, and fulfilled. If you don’t see him in your life anymore, it must be because you have your spiritual eyes closed. If you’ve drifted away from God, you can make efforts to renew that relationship. Start talking to him. He’ll listen. You might thank him for creating you and also thank him for the destiny he has planned for you. And thank him for creating you in his image.

I guess I got a little personal this month. Always realize how special you are to us and how much we love you. We just want God’s best for each one of you. And realize you are making a difference.

Until next month,

Love,
Grandpa
